Our poor baby was looking smaller than most babies his age, but as a new mommy you are not given instruction on what is and isn't normal. And I had heard that breastfed babies don't pack on the pounds like formula babies so I didn't think anything of it; Jax didn't have insurance and we couldn't afford to take him to see a doctor, and he was generally a happy baby.

But one night Colton and I noticed he hadn't been going to the bathroom regularly and he was just a little to small for comfort at his age. So, I got on our home scale with him to get a rough estimate of his weight... no bueno. The scale read 7 lbs 4 oz, at more than 5 weeks old Jaxon weighed less than the day he was born.

I felt awful, like the worse mom ever! how could I not know something was wrong? Desperate, I took him to the WIC office the following day and they let me use there fancy scale to verify. Still to small. The nutrition specialist there sent us to the hospital right away where he was admitted as a "Failure to Thrive".

Doctors switched him from breast milk to half and half with formula and immediately he started to gain. After just 3 days in the hospital Jax was over 8 pounds! He is now back home and we are continuing to supplement with formula, it is amazing how different he looks already!

We are just happy we were able to catch the problem with the help of some little angels and the he will be okay! Once again I say we should get a "valued customer" parking spot at the hospital! ;) 

Daddy Drama

So, of course we all know we love the hospital. The same day I was discharged Colton was back in the ER with appendisitis. He was there for 3 days and had his appendix removed. Now with the new baby, we are both tired and practically unmobile. No lifting a carseat and no excersise. Colton is expected to fully recover, and we hope to be back on the go in no time!

At least though all this we have a healthy baby boy!

Emergency room

The fact that "emergency room"'s font on my little label tab is growing larger so often is really sad. This weekend I had the scare of a lifetime when Colton had a seizure on our way to bed Saturday night. This was my first personal encounter with anything like this, and I totally panicked.. if that did put me into labor, I'm going to be pregnant FOREVER!

But all that matters is he is okay. No thanks to me, being fat and pregnant and totally unable to do my part and put him on his side. Thank goodness for the Gilbert PD. 

What's Next?

As most of you know from previous blog posts, Colton has been working in Utah for over a month. Last week the unexpected happened when he suddenly passed out and hit his head. That is never a phone call a wife wants to get! Especially when he is 900 miles away and I couldn't be there for him. Anyways, he spent the night in ER getting tests done, mainly concerned if it was a seizure or not... which has happened in the past. 

I didn't get to hear from him until the following day. He seems do be doing fine now.. but at the doctors yesterday he got some.... unwanted news. 

His doctor doesn't want him working or driving for three months. Which makes things complicated to say the least. 

Now the cards are completely different before! If you know what we will do next, your one step ahead of me! I am just happy he is okay. But for now... I have no clue what to expect out of the next couple of weeks... 

Except maybe a baby! Less than 6 weeks until my due date!

And not that any of you like to hear me nag, but I miss him. ):
