Early (and I mean really early) fathers day morning my water broke! YAY! I totally thought I peed my pants in my sleep, because when everyone tells stories of their waters breaking it is some climatic moment. Mine... not so much. I would have gone back to sleep if the fluid hadn't kept coming.... and coming.... and coming!
So we went to the hospital around 1am. When the doctors finally checked me I was only 1cm dialated and 80% effaced. Which basically means I had a longggg labor ahead of me. Around 8am when I still had made little to no progress they gave me something to soften my cervix (they didn't give me pitocin because I having regular contractions, they just weren't making a difference), and by 10am my contractions were so strong I was begging for an epidural.
BUT they can't give you the epidural until you are at least 4cm dialated, which was around 11:30am. At this point, I hadn't slept in over 24 hours... so when they gave me the epidural I was OUT! I slept until nearly 7:30pm and when I awoke I was 9.5cm dialated and ready to go! By the time the doctor arrived you could SEE Jaxon's head!
At 8pm on Fathers day, June 17th 2012, Jaxon Bentley Taylor entered the world!! How is that for a Fathers day gift ;)
